Understanding Shared and Reseller Hosting

Understanding Shared and Reseller Hosting

Posted on January 17, 2011January 7, 2012 by admin

We cannot deny that today almost of the informations in our mother earth is spreading widely and freely through the internet. The informations are not only spreading from the press release site or news site, but many ordinary people who has blog or we usually called them “blogger” also took part of it. They are updating their personal blog daily. Even a half of probably more than a half is using their blog as a livelihood to get money. And now what is the essential thing that we need for creating a daily blog? Of course a domain name and a web hosting, but for the present time i will not talk about domain, let’s get a little bit closer to web hosting especially shared and reseller.

For creating a website or blog, you need to host your content in the web hosting so people can visit your blog and read your writing via internet. Web hosting is built and divided from a server to a dozens or hundreds of web hosting account, so it can be called as shared hosting. You can choose one of the admin console from vary choice for web hosting. There are some paid admin console management such as cPanel, Direct Admin, and Plesk which are user friendly, also there are some free admin console management like kloxo and webmin or virtualmin for the expert.

One shared hosting account usually allocated about 32MB to 64MB for memory usage and fair share cpu for processing your website’s script. Not quite a lot of memory allocation for shared hosting because most of web hosting provider only permit low memory usage or we could say shared hosting only for small blog or small website which only have a standard cpu usage for script processing and quite low visitor. You probably can expect your shared hosting used for static website or small dynamic website with database and programming script like php, asp, or java (as long as it is not making a large cpu usage), also for the visitors you can expect shared hosting can handle about a hundred visitors a day.

If you need a little more resource for script processing and high visitors (about three hundreds to five hundreds a day), you can take consideration by using reseller hosting. You thought that reseller hosting is only purchased if we want to start for web hosting business? Reseller hosting today is not only used to resell web hosting resource. For people who need more power or more account in their website or blog, they may use reseller hosting as is basically can be allocated for creating more than one shared hosting, so naturally the web hosting provider give more power to reseller hosting than shared hosting.

Other than people using reseller hosting for they middle class website or blog, reseller hosting is also good for someone who wants to start business in web hosting area. Why don’t we just puchase virtual private server or dedicated server so we will have more power and there are no limits or restrictions? Yes you can do that if you are experienced and have knowledge about build, manage, and monitor your private server. But if you are newly businessman in web hosting with no knowledge about server, you better start with reseller hosting because it is prepared, built, and managed. You only have to create some packages and setup the account with a few clicks in GUI admin console management, also taking a place for customer service, no need to worry about your hosting because your reseller hosting provider is monitoring your account.

That is all about shared and reseller hosting basic story for beginning, i will go more specific and detail about web hosting problems and discussion in the next articles.
