Summary
A few months ago, Joe contact me via comment in this blog and ask me to review FST Servers the XenServer VPS Provider and its In-House Control Panel, so here’s my personal review.
First about their control panel, i like it because it is very simple and covers the entire function, in the main dashboard you can see there are a few menus for start/stop and console for your existing VM, create new VM and request new IP address(es). If you click your VM name, you will be redirected to your VM details and there are several operating system for you to choose if you need to reinstall your VM. However, i experienced a few issue from this control panel, last time i got error when i want to reinstall the VM (something like the installation couldn’t be started), and now i cannot access the VM details / reinstall menu, i got this error (check the image)
Error
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at FSTAccess.Controllers.ControlPanelController.Manage(String id)
i hope this error can be fixed soon, because i like their control panel.
Now about their power, i got 1 Core Opteron 6128 Processor, 256MB Memory, 10GB Hard Drive Space, and 500GB data transfer. I wondered why they are using AMD while most of VPS/VM provider using Intel, system benchmark index score from UnixByte Benchmark test for one CPU is 261.1 points, not very high among their “one core cpu” competitors, but i got a nice result on I/O test, 160MB/s in average. Next is for the speed, their downstream speed is fast, which is very good if we need to download file into this server, but not for the upstream speed, the maximum speed for accessing this VM from US is only 4MB/s and 500KB/s outside US. Opening the upstream bandwidth a little more can be a good consideration for the future :).
Okay, the conclusion for FST Servers will be the final score, i will personally give 8 points from 10 points, it is good to have affordable VPS with the power of XenServer.
